The English version's name is derived from Satoshi, as it contains the letters a, s, and h, and sounds similar to Ash. Gotta Catch 'Em All – Or Maybe Just 80. Also, Ash is a default name for Red in Pokémon Red and Blue. Ash doesn't really want to catch 'em all, but "gotta catch one of each" doesn't have the same ring to it. Of course, that isn't quite the whole story either.
